01 The Brand
Our Ripples is a small-batch, ethically made surf and swimwear label from Orange and Los Angeles counties, grown almost entirely through Instagram and word of mouth. The brand sells directly to customers and has never spent on paid media. The result is a local identity, the one thing the big swimwear labels cannot buy.
02 The Objective
Grow sales beyond the Orange County and Los Angeles base without losing the surf-community roots the brand was built on. Partnerships here are worth doing only when they bring in new buyers.
03 The Opening
Southern California has one of the most active surf scenes in the country, with a steady calendar of film screenings and grassroots contests the brand already belongs to. Our Ripples customers overlap with the audience for independent surf film and for the fast-growing world of women’s surf content, a natural place to grow. The big direct-to-consumer labels have far more reach, but lack the local roots Our Ripples was built on, and community trust is the hardest advantage for a competitor to copy.
04 The Strategy
The plan rests on two partnerships, neither built around a live event.
- Surf film and festival. Provide wardrobe and product placement for an independent surf documentary or short, and take part in a community festival like the Save The Waves Film Festival, open for 2026 submissions. Gifting suits to the surfers and filmmakers puts the brand in front of a curated, like-minded audience.
- Local creators. Give one or two Orange County or Los Angeles surf creators free product and an affiliate code in exchange for regular content. The goal is a lasting relationship, tying content directly to sales.
05 Why Now
Women’s surf storytelling is drawing serious investment. Red Bull’s film Now Days just premiered in Hollywood alongside world champions and rising stars. Brands now treat creators as an ongoing content pipeline, and audiences reward work with a raw, honest feel. Our Ripples was built Instagram-first and in step with the community, matching where the industry is going.
06 Rollout and Measurement
The rollout starts small. Gift wardrobe to a few surfers or filmmakers at the festival and document the moment on Instagram. The first step costs little and tests whether festival audiences respond. Whatever works there shapes a small creator ambassador program with tracked affiliate codes. The plan spends product where a normal campaign would spend cash, so the financial risk stays low.
Success shows up in a few clear places. The first is follower growth from outside Orange County and Los Angeles. Affiliate usage and site traffic tied to the posts show whether the attention is converting. Repeat purchases from the new customers show whether the conversion holds.
