01 The Idea
Most brand partnerships have to manufacture a reason to exist, while this one begins with a reason that is already true, because OSEA and the World Surf League both belong to the ocean. OSEA is a clean skincare brand founded in Malibu, built on seaweed and certified organic formulas, with a devoted following among wellness and outdoor consumers. The WSL is the premier organization in professional surfing, drawing a passionate lifestyle audience of more than 80 million, and it runs serious ocean conservation programs alongside the competition itself. The pitch is to make OSEA the league’s first official skincare partner, and the whole case rests on how little either brand would have to pretend.
02 Why It Fits
The fit holds on three levels, and none of them is cosmetic. The two brands share a mission, since both are publicly committed to ocean health and environmental responsibility. They share an audience as well, the health conscious and outdoorsy consumer who buys with intention and stays loyal to the brands that match their values. They even share a visual language, a clean and coastal aesthetic that means neither brand would need a rebrand to stand beside the other.
03 Why Now
Timing is what turns a natural idea into an actionable one. In September 2025, OSEA took a strategic growth investment from General Atlantic with a mandate to expand worldwide, so the capital for a move like this is already in place. The WSL, meanwhile, has appointed a global sales agency to build its partner roster ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, which means it is actively buying. The league still has no skincare partner, which leaves the category wide open, and it opens at a moment when most consumers say they prefer natural ingredients and clean products drive the majority of new growth in personal care.
04 The Idea: Salt & Soul
The creative centers on a campaign called Salt & Soul, built around the ritual of the ocean that surrounds every surf, and it moves through three phases. Protect is the pre surf skin preparation built on OSEA’s SPF and body oil. Perform brings the branding and athlete presence into the competition itself, and Restore is the post surf recovery that OSEA’s body collections are made for. The flagship activation lands at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, an event that draws roughly 500,000 fans across nine days, where a Salt & Soul booth would let the WSL activate at scale on its biggest domestic stage while OSEA meets thousands of new customers at the largest action sports festival in the world.
05 The Ask
The ask is concrete and bounded, proposing that OSEA become the official skincare and SPF partner of the WSL in North America on a three year term from 2027 through 2029, with the US Open as the flagship activation and an expansion to Championship Tour stops in the later years. What makes the pitch unusual is the conservation story it inherits rather than invents, since OSEA has been a SeaTrees partner since 2022 and the WSL has run its One Ocean platform and stayed carbon neutral since 2018. That environmental commitment is already real on both sides before a single campaign runs. The rest is timing, and with the skincare category open and OSEA’s capital already in place, the only missing piece is a league that is actively buying, which is exactly what the WSL has become ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
